Περίληψη

The wide spread of portable computers and the need of providing them with network connection have recently caused a great deal of interest in the field of wireless local area networks (WLAN). Ethernet LAN adapters are probably used in most of the computers worldwide. These two simple facts lead us to the design of the wireless transceiver of this work, which can be seen as a solution cheap and easily applicable for wireless networking. The wireless transceiver of this work connects the Ethernet card to the wireless medium, just like every conventional transceiver is placed between the card and the coaxial cable. In our solution, we propose that the Ethernet card is not replaced. The stations access the wireless channel following the CSMA method (carrier sense multiple access), which, because of the nature of the medium, functions without collision detection. During this work, the cirquit of the transceiver has been designed and its controller has been implemented using FPGA technology. The controller : (a) decodes the serial input by the computer, using a pure digital, hardware inexpensive, over-sampling method (3.3 samples per bit), (b) encodes the data to protect it in the harsh wireless medium and (c) translates the data rate in an elastic buffer, able of managing more than one packets at a time.
