Abstract Asynchronous circuits have the ability of adapting their timing automatically, in different variability conditions. Also, in most cases, they exhibit lower electromagnetic emissions compared to the corresponding synchronous ones. Desynchronization is an automatic method for the transformation of a synchronous circuit to a corresponding asynchronous. This method uses tools, which are fully compliant to the industry's automatic flow. This work attempts to generalize the desynchronization method to industrial scale circuits. It examines some advanced issues that have never been studied before, such as correct way of dealing with clock gating, alternative ways of creating desynchronized regions, reset, communication with synchronous modules and functional verification. Three industrial circuits were desynchronized, with the object of reducing the electromagnetic emissions. For this purpose, automatic desynchronization tools were used, in collaboration with researchers of FORTH. The appropriate additions and modifications were made, in order to cope with the above issues. The results demonstrate the ability of this method to be employed for the industry's needs.
