Abstract

Introduction: Nowadays knee arthroscopy is a very famous surgical practice with small incisions, less pain, very few complications and quick recovery. Those advantages of arthroscopy have as a result less cost as a surgical practice. For a knee arthroscopy there are three kinds of anaesthesia; general, epidural and local. In the effort of making the cost even fewer the knee arthroscopies are performed under local anaesthesia. Aim: In the present study the cost of 59 knee arthroscopies under local anaesthesia is studied in relation to the hospital stay, recovery time, cost of medication and the overall cost. Results: Present study concludes that knee arthroscopy under local anaesthesia is a cheap solution in cases that fulfill all the indications.
