Abstract The aim of the current study was a) to provide normalized dose data for the estimation of the radiation dose from fluoroscopically guided procedures that involve endovascular abdominal aneurysm repair (EVAR) and transhepatic chemoembolization (HCE) and b) to estimate the effective dose and patient risks. Organ and effective dose normalized to dose area product (DAP) were estimated utilizing the Monte Carlo N-particle (MCNP5) transport code. Data were collected from 14 fluoroscopically guided procedures. Study participants were a) 8 patients aged from 52 to 87 years that underwent HCE and b) 6 patients aged from 66 to 83 years that underwent EVAR. For each examination, DAP was obtained from the DAP meter’s measurements. Patient effective doses were estimated using normalized dose data obtained in the simulation study. The lifetime attributable risk (LAR) of site-specific solid cancer was estimated using BEIR VII coefficients. The results consist of tabulated dose data normalized to DAP for the estimation of organ doses and effective dose for HCE and EVAR procedures. Conversion coefficients were estimated for various tube potentials, beam filtration, C-arm angle and BMI of the mathematical phantom, so that the estimation of organ doses and effective dose can be possible for any patient undergoing HCE and EVAR procedure in any hospital department.
