Abstract |
The need for the protection of environment became imperative in the past few year as it was observed that
small or big human interventions caused unbalances to nature. Nature’s self-cleaning and balancing
mechanisms were almost inactivated. Thus mobilisation of citizens and governments was the unique hope in
order for the environment to be protected and we begin to be aware of our big responsibility, each one
individually, for the maintenance of life in this the planet. The governments issued statutes that imposed
consideration of all effects to the environment of works and activities that were realised. This was the starting
point of Environmental Impact Studies that substantially imposed terms, conditions and restrictions in the
various works. The form and the structure of these Studies vary depending on the size, the type and the
place of work. The existing legislation is continuously enriched so much in national as well as in European
level. This is because of the continuing changes in the technology fields and because of the bigger
sensitization on environmental issues. The final objective is better protection of environment and the
guarantee of smaller repercussions to it. The syntax of an Environmental Impact Study is a subject that is
related to a lot of scientific fields. The successful collaboration of various scientists from each other ensures
the completeness and the plenitude of these studies. This M.Sc Thesis presents the basic legislative
forecasts and provisions of the National and European Legislation referring to the above mentioned Studies
and the contents of such studies, and also presents analytically (as “an exercise on map”) an example of
such an environmental study, that is to say a environmental impact study of oil factory-plant of packaging olive oil.
