Title Μελέτη υποκινητών γονιδίων που εκφράζονται στους σιελογόνους αδένες της D.malanogaster και στο μεσέντερο του A.gambiae

Abstract The first part of the thesis describes the identification of a promoter region of the Drosophila melanogaster salivary gland specific gene LysP.This promoter region is capable of directing the expression of a reporter gene specifically in the salivary glands of the adult fly. This promoter segment could be a usefull tool to study the expression, in the salivary gland , of transmission blocking antigens of the malaria parasites. It could also be usefull for expressing several Anopheles gambiae genes in the salivary glands of Drosophila melanogaster. In the second part of the thesis the nutritional response of fruitflies transformed with Anopheles gambiae trypsin gene promoter (Antryp1) was assesed. In several deletions of the Antryp1 gene promoter it was shown that a small genomic segment of the promoter was sufficient to confer the nutritional response. This segment has previously been shown to confer the tissue specificity of expression.
