Abstract Microcavity polaritons are quasibosons that result from the strong coupling of cavity photons and excitons confined in a quantum well. Their bosonic nature nature give rise to a plethora of nonlinear phenomena such as B.E.C. Emission of coherent light (polariton laser) is achieved when a macroscopic population of polaritons is accumulated in the lowest energy state of their dispersion (k = 0). Polaritons PL is governed by the balance between relaxation rates and polariton lifetime. Polariton – acoustic phonon interaction is a slow thermalization process at Low-Q structures limiting the condensation of polaritons to k = 0 (Bottleneck effect). One possible way to efficiently and rapidly populate k = 0 is to optically inject carriers at one longitudinal-optical (LO) phonon above the ground polariton state since the polariton – LO phonon interaction is a very fast process. In this thesis we demonstrate the role of LO phonon assisted relaxation in increasing the polariton PL at the k = 0.
