Abstract

This paper attempts to analyze historically and sociologically the memoirs of Captain Manolis Mpantouvas an almost illiterate farmer from Heraklion Crete, chieftain during the German occupation, who starred in the consolidation of national resistance in Crete and after the war led to the persecution of communists on the island. This is a case study that is primarily concerned with the process that produces the speech and meanings of the subject. Is an attempt to highlight the continuities and discondinuities of his thinking and action, to historicize his word, to reach the ideological and socio-political processes of each period, while using the concepts of social and political banditry marked and discussed the way he constitute his meanings and actions.
