Abstract Scale deposition of sparingly soluble salts is a severe problem that occurs in many industrial processes. The present Master Thesis is part of the on-going research for effective scale inhibition of calcium sulfate dehydrate (gypsum). Two important parameters were closely examined, supersaturation level (different solution concentrations) and scale inhibitors dosage. Four different scale inhibitors were studied under laboratory conditions, and are the following: hydroxyphosphonoacetic acid (HPAA), amino-tris(methylenephosphonic acid) (AMP), hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid (HEDP), 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid (PBTC).
