Abstract This paper analyzes the parameters that define and affect the environmental quality of city streets. Originally, parameters are grouped into 5 categories: bioclimatic, urban-planning, traffic parameters, artificial parameters, and finally the category other parameters. Having developed theory, all parameters in the above categories apply in practice in 15 streets of the urban complex of Heraklion. The roads are considered representative, from different areas of the agglomeration of Heraklion and therefore with different planning parameters with different orientation, and hence with different bioclimatic parameters, with different traffic parameters and different technical characteristics, and different combinations of the above, so that both the description of the status quo, and the suggestions for improvement will be developed and then reflect, where possible, all cases occurring in the city. Then a comparison of the results of the above analysis that can be quantified is taking place and any resulting conclusions on the current state of environmental quality of the roads surveyed, and by extension all the way to the urban complex of Heraklion. Based on the above findings, various actions to enhance the environmental quality of city streets on both the state, and private initiative are suggested.
