Abstract The aim of the present study is the estimate of impact of heterogeneous reactions: a) on the balance of ozone (Ο3) and the other of two oxidants of troposphere: hydroxyl radical (ΟΗ) and the nitrate radical (ΝΟ3 ) and b) on the production of nitrate ions (NO3-) and thus the increase the aerosol's mass. A zero dimensional model has been used for this study. The model is base on the FACSIMILE software for solving the differential equations that describe the studied chemistry scheme, using the method of variable step, so that is achieved the biggest possible precision. The Meteorological parameters as measured by an automatic meteorological station of Laboratory Environmental and Chemical Activities (ECPL) of the University of Crete located at Finokalia, Lasithi, have been used as input data as well as hourly concentrations of NO, NO2, O3, CO and isoprene observed at the station. Aerosol surfaces measured during the MINOS experiment have been to parameterised the heterogeneous removal of ΝΟΧ, ΗΝΟ3, Ν2Ο5, and ΗΟ2. The box model simulations showed that the heterogeneous reactions on the particle surfaces influence only by 1% the tropospheric ozone concentrations but they have larger effect (≅20%) on the OH radical that is the main oxidant during the day. They also reduce by ≅16 % the levels of nitrate radical (ΝΟ3), the main oxidant during night.
