| Abstract |
Introduction: In recent years there is a tendency to measure satisfaction among health users based on health questionnaires. Satisfaction reflects the quality of services provided in the health sector. Specific patient groups are unable to provide themselves information about the degree of their satisfaction. Neonates admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) belong to this category. In this case the parents of newborns are asked to respond to questionnaires that measure the degree of their satisfaction concerning the care provided during the hospitalization of their newborns.
Aim of the study: The aim of this study was the recording of satisfaction of newborns’ parents admitted to the NICU and PMR (Intensive Care Unit) of the University Hospital of Heraklion (PaGNI) as well as assessing and prioritization of the factors that influenced them.
Methodology of the study: The study was carried out in the NICU and Neonatal PMR clinic of PaGNI. It was held from December 2012 until March 2013. All parents of newborns who were admitted to the NICU, were discharged during that period and met the eligibility criteria set forth consisted the study population. The questionnaire which we used, was NICU-PSF of Conner & Nelson.
Results: The results revealed that 87% of parents reported satisfied to the conceptual section of the questionnaire "Overall satisfaction". In the following section "Contact with health personnel" satisfaction reached 74.5%. The section "Training in neonatal care" brought together 67%, while the section "Responsiveness to problems" the proportion was about 66.5%. Next section was "Getting help to potential problems" and 60.1% of parents have indicated satisfaction. In the section "Provision of care to newborns' satisfied was the 59.8% of the surveyed parents. Latter were modules 'Stay with the baby "and “participation in newborn’s care” taking of 53.7% and 43.2% respectively.

Conclusion: Overall, parents rated high their satisfaction from nursing and health care they their newborns receive in the NICU of PaGNI. Communication they had with health professionals was to the highest position of their satisfaction. On the other hand, they felt the least satisfied with the time they spend with their child as a whole.
