Abstract In the first part of this master, mechanistic studies for the proton transfer reaction between triphenylmethane and triaryl methyl anions is being studied, in order to investigate the transition state structure for the intermolecular proton transfer reaction between two carbon atoms, by the use of isotope effects. In the second part is being actualized, mechanistic study of the reduction reaction of aryl carbonyl compounds using triethylsilane and boron trifluoride etherated comlex. Specifically, for the above reaction the primary intermolecular isotope effect is inverse, near unity, and it is the first example of an inverse primary isotope effect as far as we know from bibliography. A cyclic non symmetric transition state, that involves extensive carbon hydrogen bond formation is consonant whith the above result. Moreover, the calculated inverse α-secondary and β-secondary isotope effects are sided up whith the regard of a synchronous mechanism ruling out a stepwise mechanism for this reaction.
