Abstract

This thesis attempts to highlight “The Versions of Domestic Violence and Child Abuse in Books for Children and Adolescents: then and now”. The work includes modern and classical books of literature for children, adolescents and adults. These books have representations of domenistic violence and child abuse in its various forms: physical, emotional, sexual abuse and neglect. In particular, the study investigates the definitions and forms of the phenomenon, the Greek laws for cases of domestic violence and child abuse and the contribution of current events in the book‟s production. In addition, in this work is examined the contribution of classical books to the domestic violence and child abuse, the narrative techniques which are used in modern and classical books, as well as the limits of realistic representation to the issue. The research includes comparisons between books for children, adolescents and adults. The suitability of each book is investigated depending on the age of the reader. The working hypotheses are part of the broader issue of the reception and reinterpretation of the so-called "newer classics", depending on the spatio-temporal position of each reading. A pedagogical proposal is presented, which has projects for students of higher grades, in order to be informed about domestic violence and child abuse. Finally, there are conclusion of the study, a brief review of what was presented and the bibliographic sources. The work is accompanied by an appendix with the Children 's Literature books that were examined and analyzed during the elaboration of the work, which give basic information about the works.
