Abstract This dissertation deals with the literary device of the unreliable narrator and the consequent distrust and doubt which are developed towards him. The forms of unreliability, as well as the means that unreliable narrators use in order to be regarded as such are examined in the following works: Aristotelis Nikolaidis’ Vanishing Point (1975), Thanassis Valtinos’ Deep Blue Almost Black (1985), Alexandros Kotzias’ Jaguar (1987), Pavlos Matesis’ The Mother of the Dog (1990) and George Maniotis’ The Great Protection (1990). Regarding the examined texts, the first section is dedicated to the emerging signs of unreliability, as well as to the morphological characteristics of the narrators’ discourse. The second section concerns the sources that certify their insolvency, which are summarized in their mental instability and disturbed memory.
