Abstract In this study it is made an attempt to observe the views and perceptions of the teachers of Primary Education around the issue of the necessity of implementing the evaluation of the educational work. In its theoretical part, the concept of evaluation is first approached in everyday life, but also in the educational reality, and emphasis is placed on the purpose, which it will be called to perform, if applied in school units. Τhere is a focus on the educational work and in particular on the content of the evaluation of the educational work, while at the same time there are recorded the ways in which its evaluation has been applied in our country in the past. There are stated the reasons why the introduction of it could be useful and data are analyzed on how the educational work affects the good of "learning" and what are the criteria, according to which is called to be implemented its account. Then, follows a proposal for the evaluation systems, which are necessary to be developed and the general framework on which they will be based, and at the same time there are analyzed the factors that are able to influence the process of implementation of the evaluation of the educational work for its effective conduct. There are mentioned the types of evaluation of the educational work: external, internal and the combination of external and internal evaluation. Furthermore, evaluation is linked to sociological theories and more specifically with the Functionalist and Marxist approach. In this link, it is highlighted how each theory gives its interpretations for the correlation between the needs of education with factors, such as society and economy. In the research part of the study, at the beginning there are data related with the design of the research, such as the purpose of it, the research questions, the configuration of its tool, and its subjects. Subsequently, it is given the presentation and analysis of the empirical data, obtained through the interviews, where it appears that the majority of primary school teachers are positive to the implementation of the evaluation of the educational work, emphasizing however the half of them that the evaluation is necessary and useful, as long as it is done under the right conditions. Also, a comprehensive discussion and interpretation of the research results is carried out and there are highlighted its conclusions, where they show that teachers consider that evaluation should have an advisory and improving character, aiming not at the strict control of their work, but at the support and encouragement of them, for the most effective continuation of it. Finally, there are presented possible limitations of the research, as well as indicative proposals for the future, linking evaluation with the provision of feedback and the creation of training programs.
