Abstract Organic aerosols (OA) have an important role in the atmosphere’s chemistry, since their mass contribution is 30 % - 70 % of the total mass of fine particles and have effect on the climate (indirect and direct), but also on health. OA are either emitted directly to the atmosphere (primary organic carbon, POC), or chemicaly produced within the atmosphere (secondary organic aerocol, SOA). General circulation models and chemistry and transport models have only simplified description of the chemistry of organic aerosols. The present work aims to evaluate the three-dimensional global chemistry and transport model TM4-ECPL, which includes detailed chemical mechanism of organic aerosols, taking into consideration the SOA produced by the oxidation of volatile organic carbon (VOC), the marine primary aerosols and the reactions in the clouds. To achive that, global organic carbon measurements were used together with simulations of other global models (CAM-Oslo, GEOSCHEM, GLOMAP, GISS-MATRIX, GISS-SOA, TM3). The simulation results of the model were compared with the measurements. Also a comparison between all model’s simulation results with measurements took place. The model underestimated the observations for the remote areas by 21%, whereas for the marine areas the agreement was better with a relatively small underestimation of 12%. The model largely underestimated for the urban areas by 76.5%.
