Abstract We model point-particle and extended object stochastic and deterministic motion on a periodic non-symmetric substrate by considering the Brownian Dynamics of a rigid rod in the presence of dichotomous and coloured gaussian noise. We calculate analytically the current induced by the nonequilibrium fluctuations and show that it changes sign depending on the rod length (dichotomous noise). The effect of current reversal which is also confirmed through stochastic simulations for both cases of dichotomou and coloured gaussian noise can provide a possible explanation for protein motion in opposite directions (kinesin and dynein) on a microtubule.
