Abstract In this thesis a rerefence is being made to the main themes of Medical History of Crete, during the period of the Venetian and Turkish occupation on the isaland. It `s proposed is to show those themes by unpublished and unknow sourses and to give a picture of the most medical -social problems of the doctors, of the hospitals, the treatment the level of medical education and the other relevant topics. Doctor George Sanguinatsos is chosen as a typical figure of the first period and the docroe Kirikos Heretis is chosen for the second one. On the one hand , the venetians wanting to have a balance and the suport of the Cretan population, appeared as having social care in the fact of the Turkish treat. That system of socia care in Crete was the first one in Greece, during those years. however, it was not accessible to the majority of the Cretan inhabitans and only urdan population took advantage of the service. On the ohter hand the Turks did not have a special medical system before the late Turkish occupation`s period and they did not take measures and religion was often an obstacle for medical importament. Only later, during the period of the Cretan State(1898-1903) there was an impronement of health matters. Crete owes a lot to Cretan doctors, who in addition to being doctors and freedom fighters, were creators and outstanding social figures.
