Abstract This MA thesis is referred to the enthroned female figures made of clay of the late archaic and classical period from the Leibethrian cave of Mount Helicon in Boeotia. The figurines that date back to the late 6th – early 5th century B.C. belong to types which originate from Attica, Corinth and especially eastern Greece and Ionia. The presence of the Ionic types was continued and completed in the early classical period. From the beginning of the early classical period and until the middle of the 4th century B.C., when the last examples of the enthroned female figures were found, the local production with its own creations managed to flourish, under the influence of the attic art. The identification of the cave as the grotto of the Leibethrides Nymphs and Nymph Koroneia in conjunction with the presence of the figures that are examined, shows that the worshipers were visiting the shrine and offered these figurines as votive offers, in order to ask for protection or to thank for the important events that signaled their lifecycle, like the marriage and the child bearing.
