Abstract BACKGROUND: The european school health promotion programme Pro Greens aims at the evaluation of current fruit and vegetables intake, the intervention in the increase of fruit and vegetables intake, as well as the evaluation of the intervention effect on 11 and 12-year-old children in 11 European countries. OBJECTIVE: The present dissertation intends to examine the evaluation process of the implementation of the Pro Greens programme by pupils and teachers of schools in Crete ,who participated in that, as well as to indicate the impact their participation in the programme had. METHODS: Intervention study in a sample of 892 pupils of 5th and 6th grade in 36 primary schools of the city of Iraklio. Sample of the study were also 22 out of the 27 teachers whose classes took part. RESULTS: The evaluation of the programme is considered positive by the pupils , while the teachers have expressed reservations about its impact. The pupils‘ and teachers‘ opinions do not correlate (p=0,801). The implementation degree is high for theoretical subjects ,but average for practical activities. CONCLUSIONS: The pupils‘ response to the programme was high, while the teachers‘ one was confined. Similar results were observed in other European countries, as well. Additionally, the importance of the teachers‘ training on the implementation of health promoting programmes is obvious.
