Abstract Monitoring the conditions inside an operation theater is a very critical part of the overall process of the operating rooms within hospitals. Parameters like temperature, air pressure and carbon dioxide concentration need to be accurately measured so that the practitioners can take the relevant measures and actions to prevent possible hazards and problems. The goal of this dissertation is to test and examine the function of two sensing elements for pressure, temperature, and carbon dioxide content, compare them with other potential solutions for sensing of these entities and come up with a final system that combines the two sensors and an embedded microprocessor in one compact system. The two sensors used for the system are the MH-Z14A CO2 sensing module and the BMP280 combined temperature and pressure sensor. The approach used for investigating their function was to initially test each one of them individually connecting them with a microprocessor, namely ESP8266 and contacting a series of experiments to test their response. After the experiments the 3 main components were all connected in one final design and a new series of experiments was made to examine the robustness and the reliability of the solution. The final design was proven to be accurate and reliable, meaning that this solution can be used in applications that the 3 parameters (temperature, pressure, and CO2) need to be measured and therefore controlled simultaneously. Finally, the design can be expanded in the future to either incorporate more sensing elements or some actuators to allow the combined measurement and control of the environmental conditions.
