Abstract The aim of this thesis is to investigate and use different models for the customized correction of optical errors of the eye by means of Excimer Laser. The first step of this investigation was to find out how the corneal surface changes, when Excimer laser correction is performed according to Munnerlyn formula. Simulation software was created in order to predict the postop outcomes. The second step went further and we took into account the actual cornea surface map from the topography. This topographic map was converted in an ablation pattern for the laser. The clinical application of topography-guided treatment was performed successfully with very good results and improvement of the vision, for eyes that suffered from visual problems due to previous refractive procedure. Following, we performed two studies, in order to investigate the change on wavefront aberrations due to different refractive procedures. The first study, included investigation of the wavefront aberrations before and after PRK and LASIK refractive corrections. In the second study we investigated the change of the wavefront aberrations due to flap creation on a cornea. Finally, a clinical application of Wavefront-guided treatments was performed on virgin eyes with better outcomes for their visual acuity, compared to conventional treated eyes.
