Abstract Trans-meso substituted porphyrins are versatile building blocks with a variety of applications. This type of molecules can be used as intermediates for the preparation of synthetic receptors for several molecules as well as for enzyme models. The aim of this project is the synthesis of several trans-meso substituted porphyrins. The substitution of these derivatives is then modified, resulting to the synthesis of porphyrinic complexes capable to coordinate large ionic radius metals such as La3+and Bi3+. This kind of complexes are considered to be promising in the field of cancer radio-immunotherapy. Another part of this project includes coupling and metallation reactions of trans-meso substituted porphyrins. These derivatives can be used as intermediates for the synthesis of cytochrome c oxidase models.
