Abstract BACKGROUND: Pregnancy is a critical period during which maternal nutrition is a key factor influencing the health of both mother and child. Despite the extended research on children nutrition, there is limited information concerning the in uterus nutrition and its effect in the development of the child. OBJESTIVE: The objective of this study was to assess the reproducibility of a 149-item Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ )among women in the third trimester of pregnancy. METHODS: We collected a sample of fifty seven women in their first trimester who were attending Venizeleio Hospital in the city of Heraklion between November 2006 and March 2007 .The participants in the reproducibility study completed the Food Frequency Questionnaire through interview, twice at a month interval, at the begining and the end of the third month of their pregnancy. The response rate was rather high, 91,9%. At that time three 24h recalls were collected too for future analysis. RESULTS: Means and Standard Diviations of single questions and food groups were calculated for the FFQ. Intraclass correlation was used to measure the reproducibility between the first and the second questionnaire. The Intraclass Correlation Coefficients were highest for the items consumed daily, such as coffee and as far as some single foods concerns there were some indications of seasonal reporting bias (e.g. ice cream). CONCLUSION: The level of reproducibility observed for the FFQ used in our study is within the range reported for similar instruments.
