Abstract In the present thesis, we studied the hydrosilylation of carbonyl compounds by hydrosilanes, catalyzed by gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) supported on TiO2, as well as, the reduction of nitro compounds by the ammonia-borane complex (NH3BH3), also catalyzed by Au/TiO2. • We found that Au/TiO2 (0.5 mol%) catalyzes the hydrosilylation of carbonyl compounds in the presence of 1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxane (TMDS) in excellent yields and at rates >10 times faster relative to simple hydrosilanes. • For the first time in the literature Au/TiO2 (0.1 mol%, even at ppm loading level) catalyzes the fast and quantitative reduction of nitroarenes into anilines and nitroalkanes into alkyl hydroxylamines by the ammonia-borane complex (NH3BH3) in excellent yields. NH3BH3 is used in very low excess (1.5 equivalents), in contrast to previous studies which utilize NaBH4 in more than two orders of magnitude fold molar excess.
