Abstract Colorectal cancer is the third most common cause of mortality amongst all cancer incidence and constitutes the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in both men and women. At present, surgery remains undoubtedly a cornerstone of treatment for patients with colorectal cancer. Despite the observed decline in mortality and recurrence rates in patients with primary colorectal malignancy in the last decade, the discrepancy in the outcome rates of these patients both nationally and at European-International level, is striking. As to mitigate fluctuations in patient outcome and establish quality markers of patient care, interdisciplinary teams and organizations such as the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons and the European Registration of Cancer Care, have been created. Specifically, through clinical trials, studies and training laboratories in recent years, the quality of health care has been improved in patients with colorectal cancer in the preoperative, operative and postoperative stages. The aim of our study was to examine patients who underwent treatment for primary colon and rectal lesions by recording and analyzing currently proposed quality indicators underlying patient care during the operative and postoperative course. Consequently, we observed the rate and feasibility of their application in practice and evaluated their prospects for improving cancer care and surgeon’s education.
