Abstract In Greece, by law, education is provided by teachers with them and their students required to be at the same place with physical presence. However, there are cases, e.g. when health issues occur, where students cannot go to school. In these cases, the Greek education system appoints teachers who, after the end of their normal morning working hours, go to the students' homes and deliver their lessons. In respect to this, the present thesis and research seeks to investigate whether distance learning can fulfil the needs of supplementary homeschooling. For this reason, educational material was designed and developed for the subject of mathematics for the second grade (2nd grade) of Primary School, and specifically in focus on teaching subject for ‘Time’ and the learning and use of the clock. The purpose of this Master Thesis is firstly to investigate whether the designed and created educational material in this thesis is governed by the principles and methodology of distance learning and secondly to investigate the role of the educational material in distance learning. More specifically, an attempt is made to record the views of the Primary Education teachers who teach at home about the role of the educational material regarding its usability, the quantity and density of the material, its relevance to the Curriculum, the reasons and the criteria for selecting an educational material for the subject of Mathematics. For the above reasons the research was divided into two parts. Initially in the first part a formative evaluation was applied by 3 teachers / experts in the design of educational material. Then, in the second part of the research, home schooling teachers, after studying the specific educational material, completed a questionnaire which was given to them. From the data collected and analyzed, we concluded that the educational material that was designed is governed by the principles and methodology of distance education. At the same time it is easy to use and contributes to the understanding of the cognitive object for which it was designed. It also follows the curriculum and can be used in home schooling as supplementary according to the opinion of home schooling teachers, who would choose it to teach young children, to teach new concepts, so that students can interact with other students and it can also help to reduce the stress that children have with the subject of Mathematics .
