Abstract

The aim of this study is the design, creation and evaulation of distance educational material for Tennis international rules . These rules are based on ITF level 1 Officiating School and provide the opportunity to obtain a Green Badge in officiating and become ITF certified. This is the first attempt to create a distance education course, regarding to tennis officiating, which can provide a basic introduction concentrating on the Rules of Tennis and the basic techniques and procedures of Chair and Line Umpiring. In order to do so, the design and creation of the distance educational material was based on the model of West και Lionarakis (1996, 2001). Evaluation of the distance learning material was carried out through a qualitative research conducted with semi-structured interviews with five participants from the field of tennis and non. The objectives of the evaluation were to examine the suitability and effectiveness of the material for distance training of athletes/referees on technical issues of the sport. The results showed that the particular distance education material is suitable in terms of structure, presentation format and content, while it is effective at a friendly and amateur level only and not professional.
