Abstract

In this Thesis, a generalized simple, mild and effective methodology for the synthesis of 3(2H)-furanones is presented, based on the photoxidation of 2΄-keto furans. This, synthetic methodology was applied, for the first time in the literature, to the biomimetic synthesis of natural product merrekentrone C. In addition, we attempted the synthesis of diastereomeric peroxy natural products plakortolides E and I.
