Abstract This research is an effort to document the role of education in creating conditions for acceptance and recognition of diversity as a key feature of the social process. School is the place in which different cultures can communicate and interact, overcome cultural and social barriers and achieve cultural exchange and cultural enrichment. The aim is to explore the field of Pedagogical science, regarding the effective management of student pluralism, in order to demonstrate more closely the way in which it is approached in education. In particular, this research is an attempt at an overall approach to educational practice in the field of education, its correspondence with the educational legislation, as well as with the relevant intercultural pedagogical approach. The specific objectives of the research include: The issue of multicultural pluralism in the development of a Curriculum, the investigation of the role of communication in the pedagogical relationship, and the contribution of teacher training to intercultural readiness. The method chosen for mapping the management of multicultural classes is the quantitative approach and data analysis. In order to design the final questionnaires, some questions were initially used in a small-scale survey in the context of a semi-structured interview which served as a means of correcting deficiencies or difficulties in understanding the final questionnaires. For this purpose, the views of primary education teachers (directors, superiors, teachers and educational specialties) who serve in all the Directorates of Crete were examined. The data analysis shows that the main focus of education policy is on learning the Greek language, which seems to make it difficult for students. The result is a complete or partial lack of knowledge of the Greek language among the culturally different pupils, which makes the teaching and the learning process of the children concerned excessively difficult. However, a holistic approach to intercultural education suggests that all aspects of cultural diversity should be taken into account. To conclude, the purpose and value of the research is that it contributes to the scientific appraisal on the issue of intercultural education in Greece relating to the institutional, educational, political and theoretical level as well as the level of educational practice. At the same time, the basis is set for future exploration on whether multiculturalism in schools and the intercultural dimension affected the design of education policy and how non-native speakers of the main language and culturally different students will respond to any given changes.
