Basic problems of the definition of cultural periods and their interrelations, even when precise time and space are considered as unknown parameters to the scientific knowledge, and the applied problem of communication that arises because of disagreements between scientists about the respective terminology need to be resolved by a development of a consistent methodology of defining periods and generally a representation of these speculations. The main goal of this work is to create a standard typology of period definitions using informational systems. The problem was generally addressed by: - A development of a methodology building on top of the CIDOC specifications, archaeological theory and knowledge and results from Computer Science and Knowledge Representation. - A construction of a schema (which describes the structure between terms and relations) of period definitions in a form of XML DTD for data acquisition and exchange. - A creation of an example- thesaurus of period names within Helladic periods, which verifies the mapping of the terms and finally proves the functionality of their management and representation.
