Abstract This essay approaches the meaning of “body” as the primary field of recording the social meaning but also as the ancient field of practicing politic control, through the theories of “habitus” by Bourdieu and especially the theory of “bio-power” by Foucault. These authors are not just constructing the meaning of “sexuality” but also of the whole “social body”, in a specific historic period – in the same way that the “habitus” of culture forms the behavior and point of view of the entire social classes. After reviewing different relative philosophical conversations concerning the “body” and examine in which way this “construction” of the body took place, I am introducing a discourse that is related with the practice of “bio-power” and the “right over life and death”. In the final part of the essay I am focusing on the construction of the female body through the genetic field of medicine and bio-ethics, pointing out that this construction is based on the bio-technology of prenatal control and its medical meaning.
