Abstract AIM OF THE STUDY: To compare central corneal thickness (CCT) in patients with POAG, PEX and PXG using Visante AS-OCT and ultrasound pachymetry. Also to evaluate CCT in various types of glaucoma, that was determined by Visante AS-OCT and ultrasound pachymetry. METHODS: CCT in 26 patients with PAOG, in 26 healthy volunteers (control group), in 13 patients with PEX and in 13 patients with PXG was measured with Visante AS-OCT and ultrasound pachymetry. There were obtained two measurements from each participant at the same time of the day and the mean values were evaluated. It was chosen one eye of each participant. RESULTS: The mean age of POAG patients was 65 years old (50-80), in the control group was 58 (31-74), in PEX group was 73 (65-82) and in PΕXG group was 71 (58-81). The CCT measurements with Visante AS-OCT were significant less than CCT measurements with ultrasound pachymetry (p<0.001). In the control group was 531.7±36 μm measured with Visante and 542.2±37.5 μm with ultrasound pachymetry, in the POAG group was 523.5±38.2 μm and 533.5±42.6 μm, in PEX group was 530.5±26.2 μm and 541.9±25.6 μm and in PΕXG group was 509.7±31.1 μm and 514.9±30.7 μm respectively. The Bland Altman analysis showed percentage of disagreement 24.37% between both machines. The Anova test didn’t reveal serious differences neither with Visante in all groups, nor with pachymetry. CONCLUSIONS: The AS-OCT is promising non-contact and reproducible equipment that is comparable to ultrasound pachymetry. In clinical practice, systematic bias of different machines should be considered when the CCT is measured.
