Abstract

Social capital is one of the most important discoveries in the social sciences in recent decades. The benefits of social capital can be useful for a community. Social capital is associated with concepts such as economic development, education, health, social cohesion and community development. Significant benefits from the exploration and recognition of social capital in a community are consisting of policies and interventions based on cooperation, solidarity and communication among citizens of a community. The purpose of this study is the translation, cultural adaptation and piloting of the tool SOCAT social capital at household level. The translation and cultural adaptation of the tool made in accordance with international standards. The research for the cultural adaptation of the tool was a qualitative content analysis to identify the interpretative validity of the tool (interpretative validity). Δημόσια Υγεία και Διοίκηση Υπηρεσιών Υγείας Τμήμα Ιατρικής Πανεπιστήμιο Κρήτης iv For the pilot application of the tool 32 households in the Municipality of Gazi have been searched where a total of 99 people lives. The Greek version of the questionnaire appears to be credible after the process of cultural adaptation ICC = 0,824 (p-value ΄&λτ0,001). The pilot of the tool in a sample of rural and urban population in the municipality of Gazi showed that informal networks are key aspects of social capital.
