Abstract In the context of this master thesis paper was created interactive educational material based on the principles and methodology of Distance Education. The purpose of the work was the design, implementation and evaluation of digital educational material for the teaching of local history in the area of Rethymnon to primary school students on the topic: "The holocaust of the Arkadi Monastery." The content of the educational material is original and the result of research. For its design, the principles of creating educational material of Distance Education were taken into account, as formulated by the main theoretical representatives of the field. In addition, the H5p digital tool and the Chamilo electronic platform were used. Two separate surveys were conducted to evaluate the educational material. The first was conducted by Distance Education experts, who assessed whether the interactive material is governed by the principles and methodology of Distance Education and whether it meets the requirements of Multimedia Learning. The second study explored the views of primary school teachers on whether the teaching material is appropriate and sufficient to be used as teaching content for the supplementary teaching of local history in primary school. Both surveys were qualitative by deliberate sampling, the data collection media were structured questionnaires consisting mainly of open-ended questions, while the method of qualitative content analysis was used for data processing. The results of the research showed that the educational material created is governed by the principles and methodology of Distance Education, adheres to the principles of Multimedia learning, while it is suitable to be used in the educational process.
