Abstract The present diploma thesis has been carried out in the frame of the Postgraduate Studies Programme “Sciences of Treatment – Distance Learning by Use of Computing & Communications Technologies” of the Department of Primary Education, in the University of Crete. The title and object of the thesis is the planning, realization and evaluation of educational material by the method of distance learning, for the recognition, understanding and management of emotions, by students of the 2nd class of primary school. Essentially, the thesis evaluates the development of emotional intelligence skills, one of the most important soft skills of our era in education and labour, by students of the primary school age. The theoretical background of the whole effort is the emotional intelligence model of Mayer, Salovey & Caruso, which is characterized by the duality of perception/recognition and understanding/management in the emotions of oneself and others. In that frame, a prototype digital educational material has been planned and created, user- friendly and attractive for students of the 2nd class of primary school, with a starting point of stimuli by their school book. Following that, the educational material was applied to a selected sample of students, partly by asynchronized distance learning and partly by synchronized such, fully under the conditions of the pandemic of coronavirus Covid-19. In order to evaluate the influence of the educational material over the development of emotional skills of the students, a questionnaire was applied before the realization of the programme (pre-test) and another one after the programme (post-test). By these research tools, an effort to capture the progress of the sample via comparison of answers in same/similar questions was made. Simultaneously, the educational material was evaluated by a focused sample of active teachers, familiar to distance meaning and computing and communications technologies, in terms of its suitability and harmonization with the principles of multimedia learning. Hopefully, the application of the educational material led to the development of students’ emotional intelligence skills to a visible extent, and to a strongly positive evaluation by the teachers asked. The material, the methodology, the processing tools and the presentation of the results are successively integrated in the present thesis, which is hoped to contribute positively to the problematics around topical issues of distance learning.
