Abstract The aim of the study is to critically approach and reconsider the principles of bioethics by presenting the concerns raised by their application in the military and studying a framework of principles for military bioethics. Comparing human experimentation in Germany with research on human subjects in Japan and United States demonstrates how the militarization of medical science imposed its own logic of discovery on humanity using human bodies that afforded the privilege of quick and immediate results. The development of biomedical research in the military and the practical application of its results to military personnel raises ethical concerns regarding the possibilities it promises for the health care, training, and specialisation of personnel to fulfil their mission. Military health personnel face ethical dilemmas in the performance of their duties as the goal of safeguarding national security may conflict with fundamental principles of medical ethics.
