Abstract |
This thesis attempts to approach the theoretical background of the principles and methodology of Distance Education and the learning theories that are oriented towards the use of ICT in educational practice, on which the design and implementation of the Educational Material entitled "The Discoveries of the New World" was based, intended for the teaching of the corresponding unit in the course “History of the Medieval and Modern World (565-1815)” of the second class of Lyceum. The Educational Material, based on the principles of the didactics of History and the principles of the cognitive theory of Multimedia Learning, applied elements of the cognitive theories and focused on the interaction of the learner with the Material in order to build new knowledge in the context of a multimedia distance learning environment that could be applied in the context of a blended learning environment. The EY was assessed at the level of formative evaluation in the context of conducting a qualitative survey that collected and processed data with open-ended responses from corresponding questionnaires from three different population groups (peers in the field of E-Learning, teacher educators and students). Τhe EM was judged to meet the principles of DE and the theory of Multimedia Learning and is likable, easy to use, adequate and documented and in line with the objectives of the Curriculum for the History Course in Lyceum. The students expressed a positive attitude towards the EM itself and its possible use either autonomously or complementary in the classroom, while they saw positively the use of such type of EM in other subjects. The teachers, respectively, found positive elements in the way of EM has been created and expressed positive judgements in the implementation of teachings with the specific EM autonomously and mainly with the method of blended learning. However, they also expressed objections about how possible it is to overindulge the weaknesses of the Greek educational system with the chronic distortions concerning time, the pressure of the material and the indifference of high school students to the educational process in the classroom.
