Abstract The use of the embryo in research into infertility and the possible therapeutic value of embryonic stem cells, has given rise to vigorous discussion of the ethical, moral and legal status of the embryo. Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that theoretically have the potential to become any type of cell (pluripotent), for example, nerve cell, blood cell, liver cell. Stem cells are seen by many researchers as having virtually unlimited application in the treatment and cure of many human diseases and disorders including Alzheimer’s, diabetes, cancer, strokes, etc.
The moral status of the human embryo is central to contemporary debates on the ethics of embryo research, stem cell research, genetic engineering, assisted reproduction and preimplantation diagnosis.
In the first chapter of the thesis it is presented in brief the scientific and technical background and it is described the biological development of the embryo
In the second chapter it is described the different religions’ views and the deliberations of various philosophical schools on the beginning of human life and the moral status of the embryo In the third charter it is described Greek and international regulations governing embryos.
The chapters serve to present the points of view on which the presentation of arguments is often based. The normative issue in the “human embryos research” is finding in the question: “why human embryos research rise bioethical dilemmas?”. We conclude that human embryos research put bioethical dilemmas when is violated the normative commitment to respect the intrinsic value of the life independently from the stage which is in.
