Abstract Stuttering is the primary object of this study. Repetitions, prolongations, interjections and dysrhythmic phonations are some of the overt symptoms of the disorder. Some other aspects of the symptomatology of stuttering, however, are physical and psychological symptoms. Stuttering is a disorder of childhood. Its onset in most cases is reported to be in childhood. Most of children who stutter will ‘outgrow’ the disorder without specific treatment -spontaneous recovery. Prevalence in general population is approximately 1%. The cause of stuttering is still unknown. Anxiety and stress has been hypothesized to contribute to precipitating stuttering. Much of the theories on stuttering aetiology have dealt with central nervous system. Audition was an aspect on which there has been considerable interest. There have been many different methods of intervention on stuttering, including fluency enhancing techniques, psychological and physical therapies. The aim of this study was to investigate the perspective of integration therapy on stuttering. According to the model of psychotherapy integration, selective integration of different methods of therapy can become more effective than their singular applications. For this purpose, the effectiveness of a number of altered auditory feedback methods was investigated under the following conditions: masking noise, pacing speech with a metronome, the combination of the above. Furthermore, IQ test was administered in order to investigate the intellectual abilities of the people who stutter Combination of masking and metronome can become stronger fluency enhancer than the singular application of the methods. These findings are supportive to the speculation that principles of integration therapy can be employed on stuttering therapy. Since there is no significant difference between stutterers and general population regarding IQ rates, we might conclude that stuttering is not related with mental defects.
