Alternative Title Installation of two Laser Spectroscopic Techniques

Abstract In this thesis, the installation of two Laser spectroscopic techniques is presented. The first one is known as Cavity Ring Down (CRD) Spectroscopy and the second one is known as Surface Magneto-optical Kerr Effect (SMOKE) Spectroscopy. The performance and application of these techniques are also presented. Using CRD spectroscopy, we measured the absorption spectrum of NO2 in the visible region 609-627nm. From our measurements, we found that the minimum detectable concentration was in the order of 10-6 and also its spectral resolution was 0.25cm-1. Additionally, using SMOKE spectroscopy, we measured the hysteresis loops of some magnetic thin films, made of Ni and Cr and we study their magnetic anisotropies.
