Abstract

The rapid development of technology that has occurred in the last decades has resulted in the introduction of Information and Communications Technology in a variety of fields concerning human activity. The field of education was influenced as well. The present dissertation investigates the multidisciplinary interaction among ICT and English Language teaching, the teachers, as well as the students. In addition, the use of ICT in creating educational material is investigated. Educational material was designed and created and then integrated in the online environment of Chamilo in order to train English Language teachers teaching in Secondary Education of Rethymno, Greece on obtaining ICT skills to enhance teaching. The results of the survey, which was conducted to fulfil the needs of the present dissertation, provide answers to the research questions mentioned and at the same time they provide an evaluation concerning the educational material. The findings show that ICT play a crucial role in language teaching and education, and that the educational material created was satisfactory and fulfilled its needs.
