Abstract The present study attempts to clarify the notions of writing, graphomotor skill and optical-motor coordination, highlight their significance in the pre-school age and examine the impact of age and gender on the factors of graphomotor skill and visuomotor coordination that is substantiated by the literature data analysis and the research findings. Research is conducted including a sample of 50 children aged 4-6, in which the differences between graphomotor skill and visuomotor coordination are examined under the prism of age and gender. The research utilised as assessment's instruments the criterion of graphomotor skill for the earliest development of writing (Trouli, Linardakis, Manolitsis, 2012) and the Beery VMI Test (Beer and Beery, 2010). Results illustrated that gender does not appreciably impact the graphomotor skill and the visuomotor coordination, contrarily to the age that affects the graphomotor skill.
