Title Ανάλυση ενθέσεων του μεταθετού στοιχείου Minos στο ανθρώπινο γονιδίωμα
Creator Papadopoulou, Natalia
Abstract Διατμηματικό συνεργαζομενα Τμήματα, Βιολογίας και Ιατρικής. After completion of the human genome project, the development of new techniques, which will facilitate the study of gene function, became one of the greatest challenges for science. Transposable elements of the mariner/Tc1 superfamily, including Minos, might represent important tools in this effort, as they exhibit high activity in a wide variety of organisms. In this report insertions of the transposable element Minos in the human genome have been studied. The study was carried out in HepG2 (human hepatocellular carcinoma) cells, stably transformed with a cassette carrying the transposon. After recovering the insertions through inverse PCR, preferences of the element regarding the position of the insertion were examined. The preferences refer to the genomic DNA sequence, as well as to the chromosomal region of the insertion.
