Abstract Part I: Cloning of two alcohol dehytrogenate genes from an insect of the Tephritidae family (C. capatarta, revealed an unexpectedly fast evolutionary rate between the two families (Drocophilidate & Terhritidae). This was the basis for the work of this thesis. Morover due to thiw quick rate, an alternative closing technique has to be developed, for the cloning technique has to be developed, for the cloning of the feue in other (most distant) families since alcohol dehydrogenare gene is a useful dominant marker in putafive insect transformation experiments. In current thesis, one such alternative cloning technique is presented based on the functional cauplementation of a mutant yeast strain; and a primary phylogenetic analysics of the gene in between the two families is preformed. Part II: The D. melanogaster geneuse mapping project aims to find overlaps between clones of a genausic librar. Data analysis of the fingerprints of theseclones is done independenthy for every chromosoual division (according to the morphology of polyteue chomosomes). The data of the clones from each division are kept in independent data beses (DB). The work described in curent thesis counsists of the development of a new DB, which contains the data of all divicional ones. This became necessary when appeared the need of camparison of clones from defferent divisional DB. Morover, current thesis contains the software developed for this "unified" DB, as well as additional software came to cover miscellaneaus need of the mapping project
