Abstract The present study will examine the ability of students to understand how integers are defined as well as their additive and subtractive properties. The number line and the neutralization models will be used in order to provide a clear understanding of integers. The novel model (Steiner, 2009), a combination of the two above mentioned models, will be used to further enhance the understanding of addition and subtraction of integers.
