Abstract This master thesis explores the fundamental principles of radio astronomy and the crucial role of the interferometry in aperture synthesis imaging. The objective of this study is to evaluate the trade-off between the array design of the next-generation radio interferometer ARGOS and the corresponding Point Spread Function (PSF). Accordingly, we propose 13 different potential array distributions and carry out image simulations of the resulting synthesized beam, focusing on the main lobe profile, in order to estimate the shape and the resolution. These parameters are crucial for optimizing the performance of radio interferometers in astronomical imaging.
