Abstract This Master’s Thesis presents the construction of a Cesium Magneto-Optical Trap (MOT). The experimental setup as well as the properties of the system are described. The main goal of the project is to measure in an non destructive way the temperature of the atoms inside the trapping volume via the fluctuations of the atomic polarization. This necessitates deep understanding of the trapped atom’s motion and specific experimental requirements.
