Abstract |
The production of renewable and “clean” fuels from the direct conversion of solar energy into chemical, constitutes one of the largest scientific and technological challenges of the new century. Τhe production of hydrogen from the the photocatalytic splitting of water by using solar radiation is potentially a one of the most promising processes for the photochemical conversion and storage of solar energy. In this study, it is tested the photocatalytic production of hydrogen into pure water from a three-part system which is composed of one photosensitizer (PS), a water induction catalyst, with a Cobalt metallic center, and triethanolamine (TEOA) as an irreversible electron donor. The current study elaborates the composition of the photosensitizer and catalyst, as well as their identification which has been conducted by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR), Mass spectroscopy(MALDI) and Ultraviolet-Visible spectroscopy(Uv-Vis).
Hydrogen production is not observed from the interaction of the above mentioned catalyst with with the composed photosensor but with an already successful photosensitizer, which verifies the catalyst effectiveness but not that of the sensitizer. Finally, the yields of H2 (230 TON) generation from the irradiation of samples at various pH are demonstrated. The quantification was achieved by means of integration of the chromatogram derived from each detection of the Thermal conductivity detector.
